JACQUELINE WEST
INTERIOR DESIGNER - ENTREPRENEUR
When one thinks of Barbados, an array of
vibrant colors come to mind: Whether it’s her iridescent
aqua ocean flowing to the edge of its horizon — Or
a rainbow embossed on her striking blue and auburn sunlit
sky — Or the breathking hues of her foliage brush
stroked across the breast of her land.
Born in Barbados, Jacqueline West’s passion for interior
design arose from the colorful depths of her birthplace.
Formally educated in computer science, Jacqueline would
spend several years working in the computer industry until
she realized that her true passion was interior design.
She decided to follow her dreams.
Her first step was to enroll in the Parsons School of Design in New York.
Then, in 1996, she started J. West Design, Inc., a full-service interior
design firm located in New Jersey. Her company specializes in bringing
vibrancy and warmth into homes and office spaces. Jacqueline knew that by
owning her own firm, she would be able to build a business that would focus
on the personal wants and needs of individual clients, rather than offering
standard designs.
Jacqueline not only takes her clients' styles into account, but their budgets
as well. She skillfully works around existing pieces to create any style or
period desired. As a result of her business acumen, her work is sought after
by clients all over the USA, as well as the Caribbean.
J. West Design, Inc. is a member of the American Society of Interior
Designers (ASID) and is a certified MBE, SBE, WBE firm. Jacqueline has been
featured in a variety of design magazines, including: Inside Central New Jersey
"Summer Transformations", June 2006; New Jersey Home and Style, "First
Impressions", Winter 2005; NJBIZ "BIZ Spotlight - Offices Warm Up",
September 2005; New Jersey Home and Style "Grand Entrances" and
"Timeless Elegance", Fall 2005; the Record Home Scape "Ask the Designers",
February 2005; and BlackNJ magazine "Home Décor", February 2005.
She also appeared as a guest on the radio show, "Decorate and Design America"
with host Art the Builder in July 2006.
Jacqueline attributes J. West Design Inc.'s success to referrals and business
connections. She was introduced to the Young Barbadian Professionals Society by
one of her clients, Linda Gadsby, Esq. She is now an active member of YBPS and
is a mentor in the Mentoring Program.
"YBPS is doing great things by tapping into different areas to give back to
Barbados and, by doing so, is becoming well recognized [both in the Diaspora and
Barbados]" says West, and she loves being a part of the YBPS network and looks
forward to the future growth of the organization.
